Author short story Collections are like a party in a book. Meet other writers. Promote your work!

We are are a new trademarked press in our second year-- We aren't open to unsolicited queries, submissions or proposals for manuscripts this year, we are still growing! However, we want to promote new and diverse voices to a wider audience to make work is sharable outside of one-time print runs in journals or on an online space that may not be available long term. So we create dynamic paperback and ebooks collections of literary quality that you can share indefinitely at your events, author talks, and with family and friends. Being a traditional trademarked press, our books are eligible for book prizes and publication annual contests, and that are eligible to be carried in book stores and libraries.

We are hosting several writing contests for poetry, art, short stories, and creative nonfiction each year through Submittable. We will publish one short story collection per year and one poetry collection along with other collections that promote the arts as well as at least one full poetry collections by one author per year. Submit often and share our contests. We pride ourselves in having each submission read by 2 to 3 judges as well as positive and encouraging individual feedback on as many of our entries as possible.

Click on each contest link for more details. Check out the poetry submissions page or our young writers' page. We only accept submissions through submittable. See the results of past projects on our Book page.  More updates coming soon.

Genres we are looking for: sci-fi, fiction, fantasy, hybrid, flash fiction, other...This is about finding great writers, not about making limitations on your creativity.

One winner of our monthly contests will receive publication online on our website! At the end of each contest period (roughly August & January), we will select the best work overall to be published in print!

Finalists will be featured in print and ebook. Our books feature original art and a page about each author – with a link to your author page. The final author collections by theme will be available for purchase online. Book titles will be based on a winning featured author's work.

How do we decide who is published in each collection? Short Stories will be evaluated on how they fit the theme as craftsmanship. We are looking for deep characters paired with vivid settings, hard choices, smart action, and excellent dialogue.

We have room for just a few more stories. We are extending this contest in honor of the recent manned space launch.

The Path of Birds

Art & Poetry Contest Deadline is September 30th, 2020

The Path of Birds: Share your avian art and poetry, the sweetness of flight, that sense of soulfulness, the broken shells on the ground after a storm. Whether it's metaphorical, the flight of a soul, or the migration of a journey; whether it makes us catch our breath or read it again and again, we want to hear from you. The most lifting poems will be published in an upcoming chapbook with beautiful artwork and poetry by Flying Ketchup Press in 2021.

How do we decide which poems we select for this publication? Poems will be evaluated on how they fit the theme as well as creativity, narrative, and craftsmanship. We love bright bursts of surprise, metaphor, color, surrealism, accidental form, setting, and narrative voice. No name or other identifying info must be included in your submission manuscript text, so that your work may be read by our judges anonymously.
