Ketchupedia is the outreach of Flying Ketchup Press ®, a grassroots network to connect the Kansas City, regional writers' community through blogs, a writers word of the day podcast, a live poetry radio show, and an annual poet-in-residence including open mics, classes, and events. These tools allow artists to explore motivation, creative goals, and advocacy. Our editorial mentorships create an exponential poet-tree effect as more trained poetry editors means more publications for poets and writers. We believe in making room for poetry as a space for personal narrative that empowers, heals, and unites diverse audiences. Grassroots, artist-run, Ketchupedia helps writers "catch up" in the writing community by connecting them through online engagement and sharing resources. We connect artists with local organizations like bookshops, community centers, galleries, and libraries to bring poetry to our region and beyond. Our First KC Poetry Jam

September 30th, 11 am to 5pm Englewood Arts Center Independence, MO

The Kansas City Poetry Jam is a one-day micro-festival for all those on the poetic spectrum: readers, writers, teachers, students, performers, editors, and publishers of poetry. If you love poetry, join us for our first annual event with workshops from six teaching artists, a BYO sack lunch networking hour, and a panel discussion on “Poetry, Publishing, & New Technologies.” We’ll close out our Jam session with featured readers Kansas Poet Laureate, Traci Brimhall, and Missouri poet, Justin Hamm. Poets may bring their books to swap or sell.

Our location, Englewood Arts Center, is in Independence, Missouri in the Englewood Arts District. It has a small stage with theater seating, a classroom, outdoor gathering space, and meeting areas.

For questions contact Polly Alice McCann, managing editor of Flying Ketchup Press or Mary Silwance, Poetry Editor in Residence 2023. The event will be followed by individually sponsored open mics and readings in the KC area to bring poetry out into the community. Click here to read more details and our FAQ.
